Tulip Time 2011

Four kids. One mom. A bazillion people in Pella. $0 spent (except for fuel money). 75 beautiful degrees. Cousins galore. Family galore, too! It was a day well spent! Oh, and one phone call to 911.

Waiting for the parade, that was 15 minutes late getting started! The natives were getting restless. We watched from the sidelines with Cousin John and Aunt Michelle.

We had our spot for the parade picked out, toward the start of the parade route. And Eliza wasted no time in "marking out territory" if you get what I'm saying. (If you don't--she went potty on the sidewalk!) She gave me about .8 seconds warning that pee was on the way. On the bright side, she peed on the sidewalk and not on our blanket! And of course our extra clothes were in the van, 80 blocks away! Good thing it was warm out and she dried quickly!

The baby parade! I missed taking a picture of a few friends and family in the masses of Dutch costumes and strollers. Here is my friend Theresa with her twins Leah & Logan and my friend Michelle with baby Olivia. Lookin' Dutch!

My nephew Mark is in the red shirt right in the center. He's marching with his grade school class.

Eden & Eliza loved seeing all the "princesses."

Eden and I.

The Thomas the Train float is always a favorite!

And that's the boys' friend Micah on his bike, right in the middle of the picture. It was a bit hard to take a picture with Ephraim and Emmet in it, along with Micah--a moving subject.

Vermeer's float.

Uncle Don in the parade.

And, our attempt at "pictures with the tulips." It was warm out, we were tired from walking and watching the parade.

Eliza, Eden, Emmet, Ephraim and John.

After this, we took a break and went to my parents' house for some rest and nourishment. Then it was back to Pella for the lighted parade.

We did get a chance to take a few pictures before the parade.

Eden, Ephraim, Emmet, Eliza and I.

And the kids with Grandma Twyla.

We watched the evening parade with first and second cousins. Gideon, Rachel and Johnathan joined us!

Eden and Grandma!

It was fun to visit with friends and family while watching the evening parade. The evening weather was perfect, as well. After the parade we got in line to catch the shuttle to where our car was parked. We were in line and one shuttle bus was full and about ready to pull away. The next shuttle was ahead of it, so we're going toward that shuttle bus. Well, an older (meaning 80ish) tripped over a step stool or his cane caught the stool, either way, he fell and broke his glasses, had blood coming from his nose and forehead, etc. I dialed 911 right away and officer came within a minute. And an ambulance wasn't far behind.

It made for a late evening, since the parade didn't start until 8:45, but it was worth it!
